Many people all over the world own cats. Unfortunately, one of the most hated odors of all time is cat urine odor. If you own a cat then you know that smell and fear it.

Even if you have the greatest, sweetest cat in the whole world, one day; yes one day, he might have an accident! Whether he is trying to stake claim to his property or was just not feeling well, it is hard to get rid of this odor; if you do not know a few simple home solutions.

In this little tips and trick article, you will find some secret weapons that will help you be rid of stinky cat urine odor forever.

Cleaning Fabric Surfaces:

When you find a urine spot, do not rub! First, lay an absorbent towel on top and press to absorb any fluids left. You will need to keep repeating this step until as much liquid is removed as possible.

Next, rinse off the area with warm water (not hot). Again blot this up repeatedly, getting the moisture out.

Finally, you can do one of two things. Use a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution or vinegar in warm water. The usually ratio is 1 cup to half gallon of water. The vinegar works especially well to help be rid of odor for good.

For the peroxide, put some on a cloth and press into the region that has been soiled. Use a different, clean cloth to absorb the peroxide back out of the fabric (note: you may want to test an out-of-sight spot to make sure your fabric will not be damaged by this).

If you decide to use the vinegar solution, just add it to a spraying bottle and spray to your surface. Place a rag or cloth over your stained area and then press to remove extra fluids. Leave this on overnight and vacuum in the morning if desired.

A dryer alternative is using baking soda to eliminate urine odors. This really only works for surface scents. Evenly sprinkle the soda on the surface. Leave it overnight and vacuum up.

Repeat this, but the second time take a damp cloth to the baking soda and rub it into the fabric. Let this dry and vacuum again.

Rugs :

The procedure for cloth generally works to eliminate cat urine odor on rugs too. However, if you find that there is still a lingering scent consider renting a good steam cleaner.

Alternatively go to a pet store and get a product that has odor enzymes to break down and neutralize it.

Different Floors

If you have different types of floors that you know will clean up well with bleach then use bleach in water solution.

How does your Litter Box Look?

Cats may be animals, but they certainly do not like walking around in filth. They can and need clean litter boxes. If you keep you litter box clean and well maintained then your cat will likely keep using it and will not use your new lovely rug!

Remember, if he does have an accident you need to clean it up as soon as possible. If not, he may find that spot and use it again and again and the cat urine odor will stay in your home.
