It is amazing how birds can almost eat anything, well, not everything, but most things. Even though they are very flexible in what they eat, you should still make sure they get the appropriate diet. Different birds have different diet requirements. Choices include seed and pelleted diet. Do they have a personal preference? Is your bird allergic to anything?
There are some foods that give enough nutrients to cure problems like feather picking and vitamin deficiencies. With so many different choices of food, especially with seed and pellets, you should research more about what is the best. So even if you think your bird likes to have a lot of seeds, but they really don’t. You have to remember, some seeds are high in fat and can really be bad for your parrot if consumed too much. Pellets are the more recommended form of diet.
Birds can also eat many different things as well. Fresh fruits are also an essential part of the diet that you should consider. You can also buy organic food from a premium local pet store. Natural food without any preservatives would mean that your bird is getting a very clean diet. Despite the bird’s diet flexibility, they have sensitive stomach.
Eating excessive human food is not recommended because of the differences in stomach structure. Sweet potato is one food that you both would enjoy. However, feeding your bird just sweet potatoes would not be good. Some food you definitely don’t give your bird. By giving them chocolate and avocado you can actually kill your bird.
Always remember different birds would like different diets. So always check specifically on your birds diet. Small bird diets are different from large parrot diets. After all, you can’t expect a small canary taking down a large peanut as opposed to a macaw. Sometimes it is not a bad idea to talk with the pet store owners or bird breeders in order to get the best diet for your bird. You do not want to end up feeding something to small birds that you are not supposed to. Likewise, you do not want to feed the parrot food that small birds are used to.
With regards to where to feed your bird, a bird cage with feed dishes is a great location for your bird to feed. Put anything into the food dish and your pet will have a blast. You should have a cage that has seed guards all around so that everything that falls out of the dish would not just end up everywhere.
Birds are extremely messy eaters. They naturally like to throw all the food around. Thus, by getting a bird cage that has a set of seed guards would keep your cleaning to a minimum. Seed and pellets are annoying to clean after all.
Hopefully you have enjoyed this slight guide about distinctive kinds of bird food. Healthy diet and dependable nutrients would prop up a long and healthy life. At all times keep in mind what not to give them and what to give them, but most significantly, what not to give them. And of course, having the right bird cages or parrot cages wouldn’t be a bad idea either.
