There have always been mixed breed dogs that differ in looks, personality and size even when they come from the same litter. Usually these dogs are referred to as “mutts” and they are much adored. They frequently have excellent health and they make fantastic pets.

A mutt has an unknown heritage. The parents are not as a rule purebreds and the pedigree is essentially unfamiliar. There are no records of their inherited line and their heritage is uncertain.

A purebred has two parents of the identical breed. Usually there are lengthy genetic records that go back many generations. Breeders vigilantly select the dogs they will breed so as to assure that the strongest traits are characteristic in the pups.

Some individuals may have a preference to have a mixed breed or a mutt for a pet as they usually possess great health and they make great pets while others may desire to have a purebred dog. Nonetheless, there is one more preference that can be considered and that is the hybrid dog or the “designer dogs”.

A hybrid dog is the offspring of two purebred parents from two separate breeds. They are not like a mutt because their genetic roots is known. Each of the parents of the designer puppy have a genetic line that can be traced back a few generations.

Hybrid dogs are becoming quite the mania these days. You see them far and wide from movies to dog shows. These dogs tend to have the best characteristics from each of the breeds and generally a good mixture of both breeds.

The hybrid dogs are usually called really unusual names that are a combination of both breed names such as a puggle, a mix of a pug and beagle, a poogle for a poodle and pug, cockapoo for a cocker poodle combination, a goldendoodle which is a poodle and golden retriever mixture and of course many others as the catalog of combinations goes on and on.

The designer hybrid dogs make great pets and you usually end up with the best of two breeds. They tend to have solid health and they are intelligent and pleasant to possess.
