Make Sure To Read This Before Getting A Leonberger Dog

I have high hopes that the majority of you reading this now are considering bringing one of these dogs home. The absolute first thing I want to tell you before getting to what you have to lookout for is that they are amazing dogs. My least favorite part about these dogs is that their lifespan is about 7 years, which if you don’t know is four lower than the norm for a dog of their size. Ultimately they are known for their amazing strength and kindness towards people. If you provide them with a suitable diet, they will lead an exceptionally healthy life also. Just like any other dog you would want to purchase there are some things to look out for before making the purchasing decision.
The primary issue you ought to lookout for is definitely an aggression issue, as they could be a dangerous dog. A leonberger thats very aggressive is amazingly rare but still possible. The reasons for an aggressive dog period are: mean past owner, very traumatizing experience when it was a little puppy, or poor training. All dogs can be aggressive when faced with the above situations, however, a leonberger is sort of a sizable dog so we wouldn’t want an aggressive dog that can actually do some damage.
If the leonberger you are thinking about getting is already fully grown then youll need to find out if it has had early socialization or any other form of training. Socialization is especially needed for if it’ll be around children. You don’t want your dog getting angry at children for not leaving him alone one too many times. To help prevent this you ought to attempt to teach your dog and the children how they should act around each other sot here is no confusion. If your dog you are looking at is an older one, you can hire a specialist to make sure it’s obediant and get it help if it needs it. This won’t be the cheapest in the world but will make your bond with your dog that much stronger. However, if you would rather just avoid all this trouble then find one that is either around people a lot, or a young one that you can train yourself.
Thankfully the leonberger breed doesn’t need the most space, especially in comparison to their size. Walking a leonberger everyday is a huge thing for them since they are so active with energy all day. They are going to be a lot better behaved daily even if you just take them for a short stroll around the block and you allow them to burn off some energy. They also have a desire for some brain stimulation which can be provided with thinking dog toys. You can find these at any pet store and should be labeled for brain stimulation.
All in all these are great dogs that are very beautiful and amazingly loyal. They can make a great addition to any family. If treated well they will live long and healthy lives and get along very well with children.
