It is always fun to get a new puppy but it will be easier if you have a few of the equipment that you need on hand before he comes to your house. You will want to begin teaching him right away to be a respectable puppy citizen and a appreciated member of your family. It is easier if you have the gear that you need on hand.
If you go to the pet store you will see that there are a lot of dog products that you can buy. Some of these are helpful to have and others are just a waste of cash.
One of the most vital things that you will need when you get a new puppy is a crate. Dogs like to have a hideout that is their own space. Your training will go better if you use a crate. Make sure that you get one that is the right dimension for your puppy. You may want to have two in case you want one for the automobile.
You will also require a collar and a leash. Get at least one collar that fits well and then you can get special training collars later. One six-foot leash that feels good in your hand is also crucial.
Try to find out what your puppy is used to eating and get enough of that for a couple of weeks. All food changes should be made step by step. Get a food and water dish also. Stainless steel is ordinarily the best.
For training purposes, you will need some type of aversive, or something that you can use do discourage naughty behavior. An aversive is something that your dog does not like and will work to stay away from but something that will not hurt him. A clicker that makes a noise or a squirt bottle will act as an aversive. You will also need some soft treats that you can use as a reward in training.
Puppies also need to chew, so you will want to get some chewing objects and some toys. You may want to just start with one or two until you determine what your puppy really likes. After your puppy settles in you will soon know what items work best for his personality.
It will be easier to take care of your new puppy if you are equipped with a few of the things that you will need. Gather up these things first before you bring you new puppy home.
