Schutzhund is a German word that literally translates to protection dog and here we are going to discuss the history of the sport as a breed evaluation test of the German shepherd Dog. This particular dog sport has been testing since early 1900s the capabilities of the GSD and its trait for practical work as required by the army or the police.

Hence, there are three basic phases; namely, tracking, obedience and protection. Tracking tests are for determining scenting abilities and mental soundness together with physical endurance of a dog. Obedience is a self-explanatory term testing its attitude and accuracy. The protection phase involves a decoy for the dog to engage and release at the command of the handler. The German Shepherd transition from its usual herding duties to become show dogs had negative effects on the breed, which is, they started losing their former working capabilities. Schutzhund was introduced to restore the GSDs working abilities and breeding was restricted only to the GSDs who made it through the trials and tests.

The breeding system for these dogs in Germany never changes. A GSD has to pass the Schutzhund tests and earn titles: otherwise, its offspring cannot be registered as the GSD. This is the perfect way to maintain the capabilities of the dogs for every generation. The abilities passed from the parents degenerate if they are not permitted to carry on their regular habits.

The aim of this test is to exclude those dogs that do not have correct drive, temperament or there is no excitement while training them. Those German shepherd dogs are selected for breeding that exhibit human like qualities.

A dam and a Sire, both trained and titled, give birth to cream litters with the most desirable characteristics people expect from the breed. These include a strong desire to work, courage in the face of maximum adversity, high degrees of intelligence, ability to understanding situations, the ability to receive training by developing a strong bond with the handler, persistent determination and a protective instinct bumped up several degrees.

However, that does not mean turning the dog aggressive. Training is directed to allow the animal to decide when and how to grow aggressive for the right reasons or when given the command. Dog training is about heightening natural instincts and intelligence, not creating a new personality.

Tennessee Walking Horses of all riding styles look far more beautiful when they have a long, flowing mane and tail keeping time with their steps. This really accentuates the beauty of these magnificent horses. Your Tennessee Walking Horse can be gorgeous in no time at all if you follow these simple steps.

First, you need to untangle your walking horse’s mane and tail. Do not ever use a comb of any kind on your horse. A comb will prevent you from gaining a long, luxurious mane and tail more than any other grooming equipment you use on your horse. Use a stiff bristle human hair brush to detangle the mane and tail.

Start at the bottom of the mane or tail and work your way up to the top where the roots are. Detangle small sections at a time. I like to spray the hair heavily with a spray shine product such as show sheen or laser sheen to help me get it untangled. If it’s really badly tangled, I use Cowboy Magic for serious detangling. I still use the same method on all my Tennessee Walking Horses, de-tangling from the bottom, working my way up to the top as I make progress.

Once you have the entire mane and tail detangled, you need to wash it. Any regular shampoo will do fine. I like to follow up with a good conditioner. If you are using the homemade rapid growth formula that I use on all my Tennessee Walking Horses, this is when I apply it to the roots and rub it in real good with my fingers. The next step I do with my walking horse’s tail is to braid it from the bottom of the tail to the bottom of the tail bone. Be sure to leave it loose around the bottom of the tail bone so it doesn’t irritate your horse. I seal the very bottom of the braid with black plastic electrician’s tape. Never use a rubber band, as this will break the hair.

As the tail grows longer, I fold the tail, doubling it up below the bone. Then I apply another piece of electrician’s tape to secure the fold below the bone. This is all you need to do to give most Tennessee Walking horses the best chance to grow their tail naturally.

Reining horses look much more dramatic and crowd pleasing when they have long, luxurious flowing manes. These long manes are also sure to catch the judge’s attention and gain you higher scores. You too can have an attention getting mane on your reining horse by following these simple tips.

First, get rid of your horse comb! This does more damage to the reining horse mane than anything else. Remove tangles and keep your horse’s mane maintained by using only a stiff horse body brush or a stiff bristle human hair brush. Applying a spray gloss to your horse’s mane such as show sheen or laser sheen will help to untangle your horse’s hair.

Once your reining horse mane is free of tangles, the next step is to wash your horse’s mane. You need to be sure that the mane on your reining horse is clean and free of sweet itch or any fungas or mites. Any good horse shampoo will do a fine job of cleaning your horses mane.

If your reining horse is rubbing out hair on his mane, chances are good that there’s a problem. You can treat the mane after washing it. Listerine mouth wash is great for sweet itch, fungas, mites and other problems. I use it to stop all things that will cause my reining horse to rub out hair on his mane. I put the Listerine in a spray bottle, and spray heavily along the roots of my horses mane or tail. Then I rub it in with my fingers and leave it in to do the job.

Spacious living quarters and grounds for guinea pigs to exercise and run around in are very important to their well-being. Your cage should be outfitted with proper and necessary features to provide a safe and healthy environment. You can find guinea pig cages online and in pet stores. People also choose to build their own custom cages to conform to specific needs. Comprehensive research is essential to meet high care standards.

Going to an actual pet store will be helpful in seeing what size the cages really are and what material they are made out of. However, many stores have smaller cages that are not suitable in size. The standard amount of space per pig used to be two square feet. In recent years, research has found that each one should have at least seven and a half square feet to themselves.

The bottom of the cage should be made of a consistent material. You should stay away from wired flooring. The cube and coroplast cage is very popular and provides sufficient means for your pet. This type of cage has wired walls with a litter box bottom that is made out of a solid plastic-like substance. The solid floor will maintain cleanliness a lot more efficiently in the cage and allows for easier clean up. The wiring keeps the cage fairly open.

Building and customizing your own cage is another option. One creative cage was made out of a small wading pool. The pool was used as the ground and litter box of the cage and an exercise pen was used as the cage walls. This is a good sample of a circular shaped cage. Another option is a hutch type of pen for your pig. Hutches can be purchased at garden shops or feeder stores. These pens are also wired with a wooden frame. There is usually a door that is secured with a latch.

For more creative customization to increase space, you can attach two good size cages together using a PVC tube. The two sections will create grander freedom for your pet. For instance, if you connect the wading pool cage to a cube and coroplast cage, you have just put together one large home.

For the bedding, use pellets or paper bedding. Cedar chips and pine chips should be avoided. The paper bedding will absorb more moisture and provides softer padding beneath your guinea pig’s feet. Stay away from wired flooring. The cage should also be equipped with an object or space where your animal can go and hide. For example, you can use a storage box and turn it upside down with a cut out for entry. Make sure to have a water bottle that can hold a good amount of water for hydration throughout the day. The water bottle should have a spout that makes it easy to sip out of.

These small animals need regular exercise. Ensure that your cage has ample space to allow for running around. You might also consider building a cage that can easily be moved from one place to another. This will create ease if you ever feel the wish to take your guinea pig outside for some natural air. It may also be fun for them to have a cage with different levels. Use ramps made out of non-slippery material that they can run up and down to access each platform.
