In US over 1000 people require emergency treatments for injuries associated with dog bites every day. Dogs are inherently feral and the aggressive behavior is further honed for dogs utilized for protection work. The significant difference dogs made to humans way of life is probably the reason why dogs are branded as man’s best friends. For ages, dogs are seen beside man – being a loyal and affectionate pet as well a dependable helper and protector. Dogs have the wolves for ancestors and in spite of being tamed, the aggressive nature and the high prey drive will kick in from time to time. A situation in the environment will trigger the latent ferocious nature of a gentle dog and the dog will attack.

Dogs have the strength to knock people down. The jaws and the needle sharp teeth that can deliver hundreds of pounds of pressure can cause fatal injuries. Dogs are wonderful creatures and most people would choose a dog for a pet. However, because of the increasing number of dog attack incidents some people can’t help but be wary whenever a dog is seen.

What can be the reason why dogs attack humans? Bite and attack situations are often attributed to human behaviors. People have grown to love dogs, unfortunately, many pet owners are mauled by their own pets. Dogs are pack animals and as such an owner should be aware of the dog’s tendency to dominate. Dogs are well loved pets that are considered as members of the family thus it is not surprising for an owner to give in to the wiles of the pet. Pet owners are advised against allowing a pet to be pushy as this behavior can turn into aggressiveness that will make the dog attack at the slightest provocation.

Dogs are highly territorial. A dog will attack if potential danger to what is considered as its territory is perceived. An eating dog must never be approached as an attack is possible because the dog will try to protect its food. The human family is considered by the dog as a member of the pack. The children being members of the pack will be protected by the dog thus the screaming and laughter of playing children can make the dog attack.

Not all people love dogs. Dogs that are at the receiving end of humans cruel hands will attack either in fear or in self defense. Dogs that had a traumatic experiences have the tendency to be snappish as even a hand extended in friendship will be viewed by the dog as a hand that will inflect pain.

It is true that dog breeders who breed uncommon types of dogs are not as easy to find as dog breeders who breed the more common types of dogs. The more common breeders, like that of Border Collie breeders can be readily found across the country and you won’t have to go to special lengths to find one nearby where you live.

However, it can be difficult for some people to find Border Collie breeders who meet their stringent standards. These people might expect perfection from the breeders themselves and will tolerate no latitude of failure. If however, you’re willing to come down a little from unattainable perfection, and can admit that breeders are also human you will be able to find good Border Collie breeders near you.

The main thing that you want to do when looking at breeders of any type, not only Border Collie breeders, is to make sure that they are running a clean setup and not a puppy mill in disguise. This is simply accomplished most times by visiting the breeding establishment and determining for yourself whether the conditions the dogs live in are alright.

After this is done, you need to determine whether a Border Collie is the right type of dog for you and the best way to determine this is by asking Border Collie Breeders for information. These people are ready to provide you with all the information that would help you in taking your decision. This type of information can help you to get a better understanding of what type of dog a Border Collie is and whether it is suited to your style of living.

Most of the Border Collie breeders would be willing to interact with you regarding what type of a dog a Border Collie is and how you can take care of the needs of the dog.

Most of the people have no idea about the amount of responsibility that they need to burden after getting a pet dog. If you going to have a dog or any pet for the first time, it would be great if you spend a little time on thinking how the pet is going to affect your life and what changes you would need to incorporate in your lifestyle to accommodate the pet.

A dog is a lifelong responsibility, it is a something that you must take very seriously and should be ready to make a commitment right from the start. Many people get a dog without thinking what they are getting themselves into, and this is the reason why one should obtain all information that is required to make a sound decision.

Many of the current herding breeds have only been well-known during the past several centuries. Nonetheless, the usage of working pet dogs on farming and ranches has been in place for thousands of years. Facts indicates the very first herding canines were available dating back to the neolithic age. Shepherds needed an even more effective means of transporting large herds. Since sheep and goats have been normal prey for wild pet dogs, humans made it possible to teach them, and adjust their hunting intuition into herding habits. Dogs were also conditioned to safeguard the livestock from other predators.

While many herding pet dogs today carry out both herding and protecting, these were initially seen as extremely unique roles and different varieties were adapted to match each one. Pet dogs had been frequently inseminated in smaller communities, and consequently, breeds varied greatly between them, even inside the exact same country. However, most of current most popular varieties owe their family tree to these working canines.

The act of herding can be executed in several approaches. Usually, dogs were only conditioned to herd in a single method, but herding pet dogs these days can easily make use of a variety of methods. The act of nipping at the hooves of an animal is an ideal way of manoeuvreing the animals and pushing it ahead. One more technique is for the dog to run up before the herd and look it head-on.

This system, known as heading, causes the herd to stop or change direction. Most of these methods are an expansion of the canine’s natural hunting behavior. By means of cautious breeding and training, the pet dogs can carry out the tasks in response to a whistle or spoken term. Of course, the canines are educated to not injure the livestock in any way.

Many herding kinds these days are finding new tasks as family pets, or new work as guard canines. Australia is one of the couple of spots on earth which even now produces dogs designed for herding. Breeds such as the Aussie Koolie and the Aussie Kelpie are broadly sought-after for their herding skills.

Shih Tzu dogs are perfect apartment-sized pets. Why? Because they only grow to 8 – 11 inches tall, and weigh about 9-16 pounds. So, if you are planning on getting yourself a new pet, maybe a Shih Tzu is the right dog for you however, there are a few things you will need to know about them.

Shih Tzu have beautiful long hair that even covers their tails, ears and face. Their tails flip over their back, creating a sort of fountain effect. Because the hair around their face is long, owners will generally tie it up into a pony-tail or flip to keep the hair free from the eyes. They have a short muzzle which tends to have shorter hair.

Although they are very lively pets, they can also be very caring and thoughtful. They are very friendly, make friends easily and can be very easy to train with a patient teacher. Shih Tzu are also very good with other pets, as long as they don’t feel threatened of losing your attention. Everyone in the family needs to be the pack leader for this dog, making rules of the house very clear. Otherwise, your Shih Tzu may become a bit snappy when they surprised or upset. This usually happens when people allow their dog to be the pack leader.

Daily grooming of Shih Tzu is extremely important because their coats can easily become tangled and knotted. The best way to brush your Shih Tzu is to start at the tip of the hair and work your way up, de-tangling as you go. Some owners choose to keep their dog’s hair trimmed shorter for easier maintenance. No matter the “style” you have your dog, it is important to keep their eyes and ears clean of any debris. Because this breed of dog sheds very little, it is an excellent choice for people who have allergies to pet dander.

Walking your Shih Tzu daily is very important. This can alleviate behavior problems that may arise out of mental or physical stress. Giving them time off the lead, in a safe area, can give this dog a lot of exercise that they may not get just from playing inside. Over feeding your Shih Tzu can be regulated by keeping a feeding schedule. If allowed to free feed, your Shih Tzu will gain weight.

Liizie Belle has her own Shih Tzu, called Sydney, and enjoys sharing information on how to look after Shih Tzu Dogs. If you’re looking for Shih Tzu facts, names, gifts, or maybe information on how to groom a Shih Tzu, then her website is the place to go.

It is challenging to train old dogs new methods and so one need to start house training a dog at an early age when he is most open to learning the correct behavior and be taught how to co-exist with his master. You will need to be patient as well as offer your pet a lot of praise before it learns how not to soil the interiors of the residence. No doubt, owning a puppy can be rewarding and fun; but, you do need to train it so that it does not do its business within the home thus not just soiling your luxurious rugs, and furniture, but also leaving a evil smell that will be difficult to get free off.

The primary thing that someone who needs to house train a puppy wants is a great deal of persistence as well as a cool head. This is essential since your dog may not learn instantly the system to track. It can be quite a chore house training a dog and you will have to train it where to eliminate which needs you to praise your dog when it does the correct thing.

It is also frequently the instance that your dog might have a willful personality and is tenacious as well as independent which makes house training your puppy tricky. In these cases, you need to let the puppy know just who the master of the pack is and also requires positive as well as continual scheduling. On the other hand, the dog could be of a type that is quite little and will easily disappear under furnishings or get into corners where it won’t be seen and soil while out of view.

You ought to remember to try out separate house training a puppy techniques including crate training as well as paper or pet pad train the puppy. Whichever is the system you select, remember to be regular because if the puppy develops bad behavior it will only become that much more difficult to break in the dog once more.

When you begin the procedure of house training a dog you can also keep a chronicle of the dog’s daily activities so that you know of its custom, which will include a time to feed it, and a time for it to relieve itself, which will help in setting a pattern for it to follow. Regularity in such cases will result in speedy turn around times and the puppy will soon become used to and aware of these routines and thus free you of the anxiety of it messing your home.

Many owners grow frustrated with their canine’s inappropriate elimination. This defines a habit in which a dog will eliminate (i.e. urinate or defecate) inside the home. Assuming he is older than eight weeks and has been house-trained, this behavior is unacceptable. The challenge is curbing it.

In order to discourage your dog’s habit of soiling your home, it’s important to understand why he’s doing it in the first place. There are several possible reasons, including a host of medical conditions, marking behavior, separation anxiety, and showing submission. We’ll explore each of these factors in more detail below. We’ll clarify the reasons your canine may be eliminating inappropriately, and offer a few tips to help you curb the behavior.

Health Conditions

Dogs often suffer health problems without their owners realizing it. Some of these problems are direct contributors to house soiling. For example, your pooch may have a bladder infection or gallstones. Both can increase urination. Or, he may have Cushing’s disease, a disorder that commonly affects older canines and leads to urinary accidents.

Another common condition in senior dogs is cognitive dysfunction. This is an aging disorder that is accompanied by mental deterioration, increased thirst, and inappropriate urination. Diabetes, issues with the pancreas, and gastrointestinal problems can also play a role.

Make an appointment with the veterinarian to conduct a physical examination for your pooch. If a health issue is causing a urination or defecation problem, it should be identified and addressed as quickly as possible.

Marking Territory

Many animals mark their territory by urination. Leaving a trace of their urine behind is a way to tell others that an area belongs to the animal marking it. Both males and females do it, and learn to do so at an early age.

If you have not yet neutered your male dog, he will be much more likely to exhibit marking behavior in your home. The same is true for an unspayed female. Neutering and spaying often resolves the issue. If your canine continues to mark inside your home, clean the area thoroughly and use a product to eliminate the odor. You may need to cordon off the marking site and confine him to certain areas of your home if he persists.

Separation Anxiety

Sometimes, dogs eliminate inappropriately when their owners are away from home for long periods. As long as their owner remains nearby, the problem is nonexistent. If this describes your canine’s behavior, the issue is likely due to his suffering a degree of separation anxiety.

Does he follow you around the house? Does he appear anxious when you grab your car keys or open the garage door? Does he bark relentlessly when you leave, and greet you excitedly when you return? These are signs that separation anxiety is triggering an elimination problem. The solution involves counterconditioning and desensitization training.

Showing Submission

This problem is more prevalent with young dogs and usually dissipates with obedience training. A young canine may use urination as a way to let others know that he will be submissive to them. Sometime, this is done to show deference to a dominant animal. Other times, the behavior is less discriminatory, which can be particularly frustrating for the dog’s owner.

An effective strategy for breaking the habit is to instill a sense of confidence in your canine. This can be accomplished, in part, by avoiding confrontational training methods, playing retrieval games (e.g. fetch), and exposing him to a variety of environments. Dog treats are a valuable training tool for encouraging confidence and discouraging undesirable urination.

Regardless of the reason for your dog’s inappropriate elimination, realize that he will have accidents, even as you’re trying to curb the behavior. Avoid becoming frustrated since doing so will likely worsen the problem. This is especially true in the case of submissive urination. As with all canine behavioral issues, modification and shaping take time. The payoff is worthwhile.

You panic and don’t understand what to do since you have just noticed that your dog has a biting issue. He is a cute little loveable five pound dog, but not anymore he is your cute five pound monster that bites anything.

You do not know what to do, but you realize you have to do something to stop him from biting before he bites someone or something other than you. Fortunately he is still young and doesn’t have a bad biting habit within him.

Dog biting is a frequent issue for a lot of people and this issue has to be addressed fast before the dog bites another person. One of the reasons that dogs will feel a need to bite is because they are stressed out or scared. Another reason is that biting is a way that your dog is trying to establish his dominance and move up in the “pack” system.

Now you realize that you are going to be the leader of the pack no matter what your dog has to say about it, but he keeps on biting. To handle this you are going to have to make sure that your dog knows that your boss. You can do this in a non-threatening way that will not hurt you or your dog. The way that can be used is the stare down.

A stare down is basically how it sounds; you stare at your dog when he is staring at you. The huge thing is that you have to hold your stare and not look off before your dog does.

As soon as your dog loses the stare down he will try to challenge you every now and then with a few more stare downs, but you will be able to win them more easily because he will start to learn that he is not going to win. The stare down will help establish your dominance over your dog and help stop him from biting.

The stare down will not work with all dogs though, and you will need to get a dog that is biting to an obedience class to have the issue addressed further, but the stare down will provide you a great beginning point so that your dog will learn that you are the boss. Remember though that when your dog does stop biting and starts keeping up a good behavior you will want to reward that behavior as much as possible.

For most pet owners, its a hard job to try and stop puppy biting. Before you try to stop your dog from biting, you must first understand why he bites. When puppies are born, they use their mouth to explore the world.

Puppies learn more about bite inhibition from their litter mates. When a puppy bites one of his brothers or sisters too hard, the puppy that was bitten lets out a yelp and will not play with that dog for a short time.

Since dogs are pack animals, this social isolation teaches them that biting too hard leads to being shunned by the group. This is the most efficient way to end puppy biting.

For you, as the owner, you must mimic this behavior to teach your dog to stop puppy biting. The first thing that you need to do is understand how much biting is enough to you.

Keep in mind that puppies also bite to help develop their jaw muscles so you should not expect your puppy not to bite at all. There are a lot of techniques to teach your dog to end puppy biting.

The primary method to teach your dog to prevent puppy biting is to provide something to him that it is acceptable for him to bite. Remember that your dog is cutting teeth, and will need something to chew on besides your arm.

Purchase a few chew toys, and provide them to your dog the next time he begins biting on something he shouldn’t. The best chew toys are the ones that allow you to insert a treat into it, since this not only gives your dog something to chew on but keeps him entertained.

The second technique to end puppy biting is known as a social isolation. Since your puppy seeks your constant approval, isolating him is a highly helpful technique for correcting unwanted behavior.

To do this, the next time your dog bites stop what you’re doing and turn your back to him. For this to be efficient be certain that every person in the room does the same. Make sure that you do not ignore him for more than 30 seconds, since after that time he will forget what he did wrong.

With a puppy comes responsibility.

With a puppy comes responsibility.

A big decision to make at first is choosing where your puppy will sleep.

Then you have to decide what you are going to do with the puppy when you are not at home.

For those who have left a puppy alone, they know how the puppy can run amuck when you are away.

Puppies haven’t learned yet that there are places they shouldn’t go or things they shouldn’t do.

They chew the couch and chairs and pretty much everything else. They pee all over. They will get into anything.

They tear up the furniture and go to the bathroom anywhere they please. They get into everything they can reach.

Using a puppy pad is a great idea. The only problem with this is that the bottom of the cabinets might be chewed on.

They get their food and water all over. Crate training has its benefits.

The will spill their water and food. Getting a crate and crate training your puppy is a good way to train. There are some really good things about crate training.

You should always use a puppy pad. The bad thing about a puppy pad is that the puppy can chew your cabinet bottoms, but they will miss the pad early on.

Puppies love making messes. They will spill their food and water everywhere. Getting a crate for training a puppy is a great idea.

The puppy knows where it will sleeping and it helps set regular hours.

They learn very fast to hold it until they are let out of the cage so they can go in a more suitable place. It works better than pad training.

Metal cages should be used for house training. Soft crates should be used for travel.

Because puppies like to chew, they can chew their way out of a crate.

Some people don’t think crates are kind for animals. They think they can depress the animal.

I don’t think they are mean or depressing. In fact, I have seen a lot of dogs who are very happy to go to their crate when it is bedtime. They feel safe and secure having that space.

But I don’t believe it is at all cruel. I have seen a lot of dogs who run to their kennels excitedly when it is time to go to sleep. It’s a safe place for them to go.

They have their own spot and often you will find them sleeping there when it’s not bed time or when they are allowed to be out.

Routines are good for dogs to have. They like having patterns and knowing what’s going on.

If you find crate training hard a good tip to remember is to put a bone it the crate. This gives the dog something to look toward.

It is a well understood fact that adopting a puppy is a very complex task, not because you need to find a puppy that is quite adorable and becomes a part of the family, but because of the fact that adopting a puppy would require you to adjust your way of living according to the needs of your puppy.

It is a well understood fact that adopting a puppy is a very complex task, not because you need to find a puppy that is quite adorable and becomes a part of the family, but because of the fact that adopting a puppy would require you to adjust your way of living according to the needs of your puppy.

Catering to your new puppy’s needs would require you to implement some changes in your lifestyle. Since the puppy has just suffered a separation from everything that he knows till now, it would be required from you to spend some time close to him and provide him with love, care and affection.

Also some time would be required in the early stages to make the puppy housetrained. But if you do not have the time to perform this task then you have the option of sending your puppy to a dog trainer much like a kindergarten for dogs. But before doing any of these things, it is inherent that you gain an idea regarding what you puppy is going to be like when it has matured.

Well right now you would wonder, what does it matter what the dog looks like when its grown up into a adult? Well having this kind of an attitude can get you into a little trouble as different kinds of dogs have different temperaments. Some puppies enjoy company of all kinds of people. Other puppies may simply attach themselves to a single person.

Still other dogs have finicky tastes while others will devour everything that you put in front of them and stuff you never thought about placing. Basically when you adopt a puppy you are bringing a small animal into your life. This animal is dependent on your for all aspects of living. This will not prevent your puppy from growing into an adult dog with a mind of its own.

That is why it is advisable to look at what the puppy you are adopting is going to be like in the future. This would help you to realise how much space the puppy would require. The space needs to be allocated for both outdoors and indoors. Also it is required that you know whether your puppy is more happy doing tasks that are outdoors in nature, such as in case of Alsatians or Dobermans. Protecting your property and home are things that these dogs are more suited to.

After gauging the temperament of a puppy it is necessary to find out how much can be spent on things such as toys, food, veterinary trips, medicine and discipline. The emotional, physical and mental health of your puppy is by far largely dependent on these things. All in all, these concerns should not become an obstacle in your desire to get a companion in the form of a puppy.

You should however be prepared for how much your life will change when you adopt a puppy. This cute bundle of mischief has the ability of bringing joy and laughter into your life.
