by John Savage

Do enjoy this article on the wonderful Yorkshire Terrier.

If you already own a Yorkshire terrier it will not surprise you to hear me say that these dogs are much more than the pampered pet that you sometimes see on the television. Yorkshire terriers are very intelligent as well as being a very loyal dog, and many people consider them to be one of the most intelligent of breeds.

An animal intelligence expert carried out some tests in order to judge the intelligence of numerous breeds of dog. Out of 132 breeds that were tested, the Yorkshire Terrier came 27th, which was no surprise to me. But not only are they intelligent enough to follow ordinary commands, they actually respond well to long and complicated commands.

People have sometimes said to me that they believe their Yorkshire terrier understands everything that they say. My response is usually that you are probably quite right because they are indeed capable of understanding what you are saying and even sometimes what you are thinking.

For example, when you hug and kiss your Yorkie, and tell him, verbally, that you love him, he will come to understand that those words mean something good, even if he doesn’t understand fully what they mean. However, when you tell your Yorkshire Terrier to get his ball, he will understand exactly what you mean, and he will be able to pick that ball out of a toy box full of other toys and bring it to you. When you ask your Yorkie if he wants to eat, he associates the word ‘eat’ with food, and he will respond in his way.

Well now, we know that Yorkshire Terriers are intelligent dogs, but are they Loyal? I say that yes, they most certainly are, in fact they are fiercely loyal. OK, so they will run off and chase squirrels and rabbits and ignore your commands to return, but what do you want, a dog, or a robot. Its natural for them to chase, but as soon as the chase is over they will be back at your side again.

Your Yorkshire Terrier should be highly confident, and when it comes to danger, he won’t turn tail and run. Instead, he feels ten feet tall, and he has little regard for the size of the opponent. He will fight if he feels that you are in danger, without regard to his own safety. There have been numerous instances of Yorkshire Terriers turning into true life heroes, literally saving the lives of their owners.

The Yorkshire Terrier is, without doubt, an intelligent dog, and a loyal dog, and much much more than a pampered lap dog. If you are thinking of getting a dog then I can heartily recommend a Yorkshire Terrier as being a wonderful pet.

Boston Terrier breeders will tell you that the Boston Terrier, which is the state dog of Massachusetts, is really not a Terrier at all. Called the Boston Bull and the Boston Bull Terrier, the Boston Terrier descended from two now extinct breeds, the Old English Bulldog and the English White Terrier.

A Boston breeder, Robert C. Hopper, bred the first Boston Terriers with French Bulldogs to give the breed a smaller size and more affectionate demeanor. Traditional Bulldogs were bred to bait bulls and engage in dogfights. Mr. Hopper tried to breed out any aggressive tendencies to make the Boston Terrier a companion dog that could be kept in an apartment or home with a small yard. In 1893, the Boston Terrier became the first American breed to be registered by the American Kennel Club.

Referred to as the American Gentleman, the Boston Terrier has dapper markings that give it the appearance of wearing a tuxedo. Its muscular, compact body and fine, shiny coat add to the effect. Boston Terriers may be brindle and white, seal (black with red highlights) and white, brown and white or black and white. The white markings are in a uniform pattern: on the muzzle, in between the eyes, on the chest and stomach, around the neck, and up the forelegs.

Besides being sturdy and dapper in appearance, the Boston Terrier is very intelligent and amusing. Boston Terrier breeders provide a solid foundation of discipline and training for dog buyers to build upon. Some owners say that their Boston Terriers can do thirty or more tricks, some as intricate as riding a skateboard!

This breed is very sensitive to tone of voice and Boston Terrier breeders will inform buyers that a little bit of vocal coaching goes a long way. Boston Terriers do not respond well to negative reinforcement, shouting or punishment. However, positive reinforcement techniques such as soothing vocal tones and treats can be successful, particularly with housebreaking.

The short, fine coat of the Boston Terrier requires minimal grooming. Nails should be clipped regularly and the face and ears should be wiped with a damp cloth every day. Boston Terriers are prone to ocular conditions such as cherry eye and cataracts so eyes should be checked regularly.

Buyers should thoroughly research the breed to make sure they can meet its needs. Once buyers have found that this is the breed they are looking for, they can begin researching Boston Terrier breeders.

Boston Terrier buyers have a responsibility to thoroughly research Boston Terrier breeders. There are many illicit breeders working to make money with little regard to animal health, quality or care. Buyers should ask for references from respected breeders in their town or state. Local shelters may also be able to direct buyers to good Boston Terrier breeders.

When you get a Bichon rescue dog expect nothing but love from it. These dogs, well known for their cuddly beauty, make exceptional pets for those who love animals and love to be constantly around them. The Bichon Frise dog is an exceptionally loving dog as it is beautiful and when you get one from a rescue center you should be completely assured that you are making the best choice ever.

Having a Bichon Frise rescue dog is a joy because in most cases this dog is already housebroken and well trained. Besides, its personality will most likely match your needs exactly. When you get a rescue dog into your home keep in mind that it has a history and that is not a pleasant one. Give it time to adjust with you and your family and feel secure yet one more time through your love and the comfort it gets in your home.

The Bichon Frise rescue dog will need to be gradually introduced to the rules of your home. Keep in mind that this indeed has to be done gently and with more than a little patience. There are some easy and surefire ways to bond with the dog and you should adopt these one by one to have it become an integral part of your home sooner than later.

A Bichon Frise rescue dog will pine for love, affection and an owner. In the shelter it will feel isolated and lonely which is pretty traumatic for these dogs because they particularly love human companionship and close interaction.

You will find when you get the dog home that it is either very happy and bounces all over the place or that it is very circumspect and suspicious of everything that comes in the front of it. You need to treat it with patience and a lot of love. Allow it to move freely even if there are a few accidents in the meantime.

There are many things that you need to do when you bring home a Bichon Frise rescue dog. Among the first things will be to show it its haven or safe place. Have it in a place which is a little secluded, yet not away from your company. It can be at the foot of the bed in a wide and comfortable dog basket, near your favorite armchair or the like. The dog should feel safe and secure there, as well as comfortable.

Give the dog time sufficient time to understand the rules of your home, while at the same time interact with it constantly. Always have some tidbits with you and reward the dog amply whenever it does anything praiseworthy. Ignore things it does wrong initially and continue to reward the good behavior.

There is a total bonding that forms between any pet and yourself once you have it for some time with you. There is however a very special bond when it comes to a Bichon Frise rescue dog. There is the fun time of discovering each other and there is the time when both feel grateful about each other’s presence. Adopting a dog is a wonderful thing.

You are going to find that most of the really easy and accessible Shar Pei pictures are found on the Internet. The only trick is knowing which sites to look for to find the best pictures. One of the first sites you can try are the many message boards dedicated to discussions about the Shar Pei.

More than likely you will not find a better source for free Shar Pei pictures than the different sites on the Internet. The only trick is figuring out which sites will carry the best pictures and the best variety of pictures. These types of sites cannot only be entertaining but they can be very educational as well.

Shar Pei breeders can be an excellent source of great Shar Pei pictures and if they host a website then that is even better. The Shar Pei breeder wants their business to be shown in the best light possible so they are going to have a great collection of quality Shar Pei pictures for you to check out.

by Rosie Allan

No animal should be left abandoned or left to suffer and that is very true of the toy breed Pomeranian. If you know of a Pomeranian that is being abused or has been abandoned then get in touch with a Pomeranian rescue centre right away to give that little dog a second chance at a good life. Before you drop a dog off at a Pomeranian rescue centre however you may want to do a little research to make sure you are dropping it off into a situation that can help.

A good vet is essential to the survival of any abandoned or abused pet so make sure that the rescue centre you are dealing with has a relationship with a good vet that can get the pet the medical attention it needs. Without a vet there is not much a rescue centre can do so make sure that they have a vet available to them that can help the little dogs survive.

Word of mouth is the best kind of advertising and if you are looking to find out if a Pomeranian rescue centre is good at what they do or not one of the things you can do is ask around and see if they have a reputation in the community and what that reputation may be. To say you are a Pomeranian rescue centre is a great thing but if you have a reputation of doing a very poor job then that really does not help the situation at all. So check out what people are saying before you use any rescue centre.

Sometimes the best Pomeranian rescue centre is a local Pomeranian breeder. Many reputable breeders will take in abused and abandoned pets to nurse them back to health and help them find a new home. Ask around and then get in contact with your local Pomeranian breeders to see if any of them are in the practice of taking in abused pets and if they would be interested in helping you save a Pomeranian from a bad situation.

It is difficult for an animal rescue organization to be effective by itself and you will find that many of the local animal rescue organizations in your area are networked in some way.

Talk to the Pomeranian rescue centre you are considering and make sure that they have the resources available, or the contacts necessary, to get the little dog the help it needs. If a rescue centre is trying to do things on their own then they are probably not going to be able to do a very good job.

Never let an animal suffer either from being abandoned or abused. If you know of a pet that is in trouble then make a few phone calls and get a hold of an animal rescue centre.

All you need to do is make sure that you are getting the dog into a situation that is going to make their journey better and not worse.

Bulldog breeders in America, England and France helped continue a breed that almost became extinct. The original Bulldog originated in England and was used to torture, or bait bulls for sport. Gamblers also used Bulldogs in dogfights and bet on the most aggressive dogs. When England passed the Cruelty to Animals Act, bull baiting and dogfights were shut down and people lost interest in the Bulldog.

The original version actually became extinct but not before English Bulldog breeders bred the Old English Bulldog with the Pug and other smaller breeds. These breeders created a lap-sized dog that could be kept as a family pet. The charming English Bulldog remains popular today.

The English did not take to a smaller, toy-sized English Bulldog, but the smaller version became so popular in France that French Bulldog breeders renamed it the French Bulldog and bred in different traits than those seen in the English Bulldog. The French Bulldog has a smaller head and erect, bat ears unique to the breed.

French Bulldogs are toy versions of the English variety. The two breeds have similar health, behavioral, and social issues. The American Bulldog is much larger but has many of the same predispositions as the smaller English and French Bulldogs.

Bulldogs have short muzzles. This makes it difficult for them to breathe. English and French Bulldogs are prone to a reverse sneeze in which moisture becomes trapped in the airway. This can look and sound uncomfortable for both dog and owner.

There are many illicit American, English and French Bulldog breeders in operation around the world. It is imperative that potential Bulldog buyers are well versed on Bulldog information before buying. Buyers will also need to know how to distinguish good breeders from bad Bulldog breeders.

First and foremost, good breeders never sell dogs to pet stores. Any breeder selling to a pet store does so because he thinks of animals as merchandise. Good breeders see dogs as members of the family. Second, good breeders only have a litter available at a time. If a breeder has too many puppies available at one time, buyers should ask how the breeder is providing love and attention to them all. Most likely, these breeders do not have puppies on site. They may be brokers who order puppies from elsewhere but tell buyers they have whelped and raised puppies themselves.

You will be sure to get a healthy, happy puppy simply by avoiding breeders with these traits.

People create websites for various reasons and you can use some of these websites as your resource in the search for Havanese pictures. There are a variety of reasons why various people create and host websites for the Havanese breed of dog. Whether you are looking for pictures for reference or just to see what a Havanese dog looks like you can surely find any Havanese information you need on the World Wide Web.

Havanese dogs have made a comeback in recent years in the United States and many families are finding themselves wanting one of the cute little dogs. But you should always do a lot of research into the different breeds of the Havanese before you set out to get one because Havanese are expensive dogs and you want to make sure that the investment you make is the right one for your family and for your new Havanese dog.

Some people just love to post their personal lives on the Internet and that is very true of Havanese owners. Havanese owners are usually very loving dog owners and they will go to extremes to post their Havanese pictures and Havanese information for the world to see.

Some may also give the world a day-to-day account of what their Havanese does. This all may seem really self-serving and boring but in reality it is information you can use to see how real life Havanese owners care for their dogs.

A personal blogs for someone’s Havanese dog can not only show you what the dog looks like in a real home setting, away from the pet shop pens and cameras, but what things current Havanese owners have in their homes for their dogs.

A daily diary is an excellent way to see exactly how a Havanese behaves in its day-to-day life and it can also help you see what current Havanese owners provide for their dog as either entertainment or necessity. Use these pictures to see what other people do to take care of their Havanese and see if you still think you want one for your own.

Another great type of website for Havanese pictures that can not only let you see what the Havanese dogs look like but can also educate you, is a breeder’s website. Many Havanese breeders will keep a very informative website that will not only show you pictures of the various Havanese breeds but also give you Havanese information regarding their care and even how to find the right veterinarian for your Havanese. Of course they will also let you know how much a Havanese costs to own if you just ask them.

Before you decide to invest a lot of money into a Havanese dog be sure you do the research you need to do to make sure that you know what you are getting yourself into. They are cute little dogs but for the money spent on them you want to be sure that a Havanese really is the dog you want your family to have as a pet.

Abusing animals and abandoning animals is about the worst thing a person can do and when a pet is abused like that they are confused and don't know what is going on.
Abusing animals and abandoning animals is about the worst thing a person can do and when a pet is abused like that they are confused and don’t know what is going on. If you have decided to take in a Chihuahua rescue dog and give it a second chance at a good home then your actions are very humane and wonderful. Good luck to you but you are going to need a tad bit more than luck to make sure you and your new Chihuahua rescue dog are happy together. You are going to need the right people behind you and you are going to need to know what to expect from your dog as well.

A good vet is extremely important to the life of any pet and when you are dealing with a pet that has been through some trauma then you need a vet that understands how to deal with a pet like that. Take your time and talk to a lot of vets before deciding on one and make sure the one you pick is someone your dog likes too.

A local Chihuahua breeder may or may not be willing to be a resource for you in your attempt to raise a Chihuahua rescue dog. Some breeders take it upon themselves to be a source of information for any Chihuahua owner and they do not mind answer questions or offering advice on everything from diet to behavioral issues. Some breeders only deal with their own customers but it never hurts to ask and you may get lucky and find another valuable resource.

The Chihuahua is a very proud dog and when it comes out of an abusive situation it more than likely had that pride destroyed by the abuse. It will take a lot of love and patience to bring that pride back and you will have to just do your best to be there for your dog. A Chihuahua needs that high sense of self for it to really be comfortable so be patient and be ready for a tough battle.

In any normal situation with a Chihuahua housebreaking is a frustrating and long ordeal. With a Chihuahua rescue dog that is not housebroken it may border on impossible. Try all of the standard housebreaking methods with positive reinforcement but if nothing works then you may have to settle on a litter box.

For a rescue dog you may want to accept a litter box dog and save you and the dog a lot of stress. Use shredded paper and keep it clean. It may be the best way to deal with a difficult situation.

Training and living with your new dog will be very difficult but never punish the dog. A Chihuahua will respond more to positive reinforcement and may become defensive with punishment and start biting.

So just understand that you are going to need a lot of patience and love and never punish your Chihuahua rescue dog because that is something you would not do to a well-adjusted Chihuahua and it will certainly bring negative results with a rescued dog.

Poodles are very pleasing to the eye and this fact is buttressed even more when you take into account its extreme intelligence and its very endearing nature that makes every aspect of his personality truly work to its advantage. In terms of physique, the Poodle is small though tough and he may either have a corded coat or one that is curly and the colors will vary, though black and white are most common. Also, the corded coated Poodle is very rarely found in America though the three main varieties found in America and also in the rest of the world are the Standard, Toy and Miniature Poodle.

Also, Poodles are the most pampered and thus can easily be spoiled by their owners though that does not take away from their impressive presence as well as aura of superiority, which can only be attributed to their most impressive history. So, don’t be surprised when your Poodle prances about elegantly or holds himself proudly and shows what a noble creature he really is.

Poodles love the company of humans and they are particularly good even in the company of children. And because they also instinctively have both the characteristics of a hunting dog as too very well developed retrieving instincts, they are well suited to acting as watchdogs, particularly in the case of the Standard Poodle. Nevertheless, even the Miniature as well as Toy versions are effective watchdogs and will readily warn you about the presence of strangers.

Standard Poodles, however, require a bit more exercising than do the toy and miniature versions and the reason for this is their bigger size. However, Poodles are also quite mellow and do not jump about too much nor do they act too nervous and they have an affinity for people as well as children. Also, you will not face any trouble in training your Poodle though he does not like being caged, and is, in fact quite a free-bird if truth be told.

You can expect to be pleasantly surprised to learn that despite their small size Poodles are really quite strong physically and thus should be kept leashed to prevent any accidents from taking place.

It goes without saying that Poodles are excellent pet dogs that possess a good nature and are also very intelligent dogs that can adapt well to any surroundings. Poodles love human company and so require a lot of attention and love. And once they are showered with love and affection will soon develop a strong bond with their owners that will last throughout their lifetime.

However, the Poodle is also a creature that expects and loves stability as well as requires following a set routine and will not take kindly to changes in his routine or to being exposed to chaotic environments.

Poodles are often thought of as being one-man and also one-family dogs and are generally shy when strangers approach him. However, once they have been allowed time to settle into their new homes, Poodles will become more relaxed and will turn out to be ideal pet dogs.
