Get Rid Of Cat Fleas In Your Home With 3 Simple Steps

June 25th, 2009 by Jana Walsh

I couldn’t believe that my home was taken over by blood sucking fleas. Luckily, I found a product that fixed all my flea problems.

So have you noticed your beloved pet scratching more than normal the last few days, and now you have an itch that seems to be spreading to all parts of your body? Has it come to your attention that you may have a flea infestation in your home?

Many pet owners deal with a flea infestation at least once, but did you know that pets are not the only ones bringing in fleas? Fleas are not shy. They will ride on anything or anyone. Even you can bring in fleas from outside. Well, what I came across will eliminate fleas easily and effectively from your home, but before we go into that let’s begin with a little information.

Is it really a flea infestation you are dealing with?

1. Pet Itching Too Much

Does one of your pets itch more than normal? A pet being itchy is usually the first sign, but not the only. Your pet may simply have a rash or dry skin from too much sun. Even really cold weather conditions will make them itchy.

2. Small Red Bumps

There are usually little red itchy bumps that appear around your ankles and if your children play on the floor they could have them all over. These bumps disappear in just a few days.

How do you get rid of fleas in your home?

Before you start make sure you have at least a few hours to complete all three steps. If you don’t rid your home, your yard, and your pets at the same time then your flea infestation will come back.

(1) Rid Your Pet of Fleas

* Comb Out Pets – Get a flea comb and comb out all the fleas from their fur.

* Flea Powder Pets – Get the flea powder and sprinkle it evenly into your pets fur. This process eliminates not only fleas but also flea eggs and larvae.

(2) Eliminating Fleas In The House

* Take a antibacterial cleaner and clean the surfaces of your home. Make sure you get the counters, cabinets, tables, and floors. Fleas enjoy humid areas so clean the basement and garage floors too.

* Vacuum every inch of the house. Get out the attachment and clean the corners of the rooms. Fleas love to hide here.

* After vacuuming sprinkle powder evenly over the carpet.

* Wash couch surfaces and bedding in all bedrooms and sprinkle flea powder over them.

(3) Rid Yard

* Take that same flea powder and evenly coat the lawn and concrete.

* Do this at the end of every spring to prevent any fleas from multiplying.

Before you spray anything anywhere in your house make sure to read all the warnings and directions. Most are not safe until dry so do not spray around pets, or children. Also, while spraying outside remember to avoid spraying any gardens especially ones containing foods.

Essential Tips For Training Your Shih Tzu

June 21st, 2009 by Rachel Simon

While you are having your meals you should train your shih tzu to sit in a designated area until you are done eating. This may take several tries, but eventually the shih tzu will get the hang of it and you will not be bothered during dinner anymore. Of course, once you are finished eating make sure you praise your shih tzu by providing them with a nice meal in their own bowl, but only after you are completely finished with yours.

Body language plays a major part in how your shih tzu will react to your commands. Using body language properly will allow you to train your shih tzu a lot quicker. It also will help stop negative behavior in its tracks.

When youre angry at your puppy or adult Shih Tzu dog, do not chase them around the house. You may be upset with them, but to your puppy, he or she thinks youre playing a game and they will run around forever.

When you give your Shih Tzu dog a command, display a very bold and upright body position. Stand up, chest forward, and head back. Your Shih Tzu dog will have more respect and a slight bit of intimidation, which can help with training him or her.

If your Shih Tzu dog is extremely excited then do not add to the problem by getting feisty. Instead, move slowly and talk in a soothing tone of voice. Display the same behavior you wish them to use. Doing so will calm them down and it will be much easier to change their behavior.

Here is a great retrieval training tip: get some snacks together and sprinkle them on the floor a few feet away from your shih tzu. Do not let them run up and grab them right away. Make the shih tzu wait a minute or so in a seated position and when you are ready give the command “pickup” and allow your dog to eat.

Now repeat the process and every time you drop a piece of food simply use the same command to “pickup” and your shih tzu will quickly associate that with putting something in their mouth. This training usually doesn’t take long at all especially when using things your shih tzu loves to eat. Try doing it when they are hungry to speed up the process.

When your shih tzu is less than one year old make sure you confine them to one room in your living quarters. You might even want to use some child safety equipment until you are comfortable that they will not get into any trouble while you are away.

Frontline Cat For Greater Cat Protection.

December 30th, 2008 by Cindy Mallory

When it comes to pet flea treatments, Merial frontline is the number one choice for vets in North America.

Frontline Plus for dogs kills up to 100% of the fleas on your pet within 24 hours and up to 100% of ticks within 48 hours.

It works effectively for one month, twice as long as its next competitor which is why it occupies the number one spot.

As it is waterproof, many owners with active dogs choose Frontline cats.

Dog flea meds use chemical formulations to kill the parasites which is harsh.

Merial frontline is so gentle it can be used on kittens and puppies of 8 weeks old and on nursing mothers.

It works the best for your cat or dog, and it works with one application onto the coat, a simple dot of the liquid on the back of the neck.

Through a system called translocation, the flea med is dispersed over the entire coat.

It is normally advisable to try to keep your cat or dog dry for at least 24 hours to allow this process to happen.

Once the medication is translocated on your dog or cat, it remains on the coat for 4 weeks, during which time it should be unnecessary to re-apply.

Frontline spot comes in three types:

A spray used for fast of severe flea and tick infestations.

Then there’s Top Spot which has all the features of the spray for routine control.

Best of all is Frontline flea control with an extra ingredient which actually breaks the flea’s breeding cycle.

Frontline treatment is the most recent product in the Frontline for dogs family.

Because canine fleas breed after being present on the host for 24-36 hours, and it kills fleas within 18 hours, further infestation is prevented.

You may see more fleas on your pet during the 18 hours as the product causes hyper-agitation in the parasites and brings them to the surface of the coat before their demise.

Frontline dogs is the most popular medication for dogs & cats, and in trials it was discovered that it killed a higher percentage of fleas over the 28 day period.

Advantage flea control for pets is made by Bayer is a very similar product to Frontline Plus flea, but merely slightly less effective.

Many cat or dog owners are very happy though with Advantage, so if you are using this brand, you don’t have anything to be concerned about.

There really isn’t much between them in the debate over which is better for cats & dogs.

Vets trust it, but of course there are many other brands of flea spray for dogs and other pet flea medications on the market, including organic flea treatments.

Frontline flea control has been proven to be the most effective way to get rid of fleas on pets.

Side effects are small (although certain individuals may be allergic) and the medication does not have an expiration date.

Frontline Plus purple is the best on the market in terms of ridding your pet of fleas.

Dasuquin: Feline Joint Health Boon.

December 26th, 2008 by Jon Jemmett

There are many supplements to help animals with sore joints, one of which is Nutramax Dasuquin, which some of you may have heard of, or may have bought. Most likely it was a purchase to try to help your dog or cat with hip troubles.

To clear up any confusion, let’s discuss Dasuquin Click Here in detail. It is important that consumers understand fully about the product they are buying so they can make an informed choice.

Some people may be under the impression Nutramax Glucosamine is a drug; in fact it is not – it’s just a brand. It is the same product as Nutramax Pet MSM, another joint product. It is the difference between using a brand name and the name of a substance.

Glucosamine and Chondroitin are the principal ingredients in these supplements. In fact, they are the only ingredients in Cosequin. Other joint support formulae like Dasuquin Click Here include MSM, or Methylsulfonylmethane, an active ingredient Cosequin does not contain.

So let’s look at MSM, and why it’s important that Cosequin does not contain it; it is noted as being crucial in pain and swelling control. For an animal with arthritis MSM is a must-have in a supplement.

Therefore although Cosequin contains both Glucosamine and Chondroitin, it can’t be deemed suitable for dogs which suffer from arthritis, because of the lack of MSM. It is however, a good brand for those who are only looking for a product that contains Glucosamine and Chondroitin.

If you dog has only certain requirements, Consequin is pretty good, with several strengths and both chewables and capsules to choose from. However, Dasuquin Click Here should be your choice though if you require MSM.

If your vet mentions the brand Cosequin when examining your dog and advises you to administer him with it, he is probably only advising you to purchase a good quality joint support product. Any high grade product would be suitable, like Dasuquin MSM.

There are many brands that may be suitable, so it might be best to query your vet a little on exactly what supplementary need is being addressed. Maybe Consequin is the best choice, but Dasuquin MSM could be a better one.

MSM, Glucosamine and Chondroitin are apparent in many products. Nutramax Labs make Dasuquin and Dasuquin Click Here and they pride themselves on being correctly labeled and made from the very best ingredients.

This is not always the case with inferior brands so save your money and go for a brand like Dasuquin which gives you a fair deal.
