Here’s a surprising new fact: Dog experts have discovered that puppies respond to attention even before they’re born! This new knowledge means that dog training can begin while puppies are still in the womb.

Dogs have a natural instinct toward sociability. They’re pack animals who look to a leader, an “alpha” dog, ” to know how to behave. Good obedience training establishes the pet owner as the “alpha” dog without harshness or cruelty, so that their pet responds appropriately to other people, other pets and to the world around them.

Good training also sets up a clear line of communication between a dog and an owner. Think of it this way: Suppose you found yourself in a foreign country where you didn’t speak the language. When you try to get something to eat, to get a job or even go to the bathroom, you don’t know how to ask for what you want. All people do is yell at you in words you don’t understand.

Eventually, however, as you learned the local language you will be able to have a happier, more fulfilling life there. The same is true of dogs that live as pets in a human environment. Through obedience training a dog learns how to associate behaviors with certain human sounds. Saying “sit” to a trained dog always results in the dog sitting. Saying “stay” keeps the dog in one place, and saying “come” brings the dog to its owner. With proper puppy training, both the owner and the dog develop a mutual understanding that each can trust in their relationship.

However, all puppies go through a period of “stranger avoidance” between six and 12 weeks. This is a natural fear that develops as a way to keep puppies safe from predators. During this time puppies exhibit more “startle” reactions to sounds and sudden movements. These reactions keep a pup safe, but they also could interfere with establishing relationships with people. That’s why it best not to rush a puppy through these behavioral period. Let it get its bearings first.

Dog training teaches pet owners as much as it teaches pets. By attending classes at local pet stores, kennels or with independent dog trainers, owners learn more than just how to control their dogs. Opening the door to your home for your brand new puppy is a sensation that just can’t be explained. Watching their curiosity as they examine and investigate their new surroundings is precious. Despite the fact that this is a very thrilling occasion, some foundations should begin without delay. Puppy obedience training is the first step in an ongoing process that starts right when you bring your puppy home.

You can do this in a number of ways. When your puppy acts in a desired manner you want to make sure to use positive reinforcement. Biting is something all puppy’s do and their sharp teeth hurt. It’s not that they are trying to be hurtful, they are babies and teething is natural. You do need to set limits, you should not permit your puppy to gnaw hands or feet. Patience will be essential here. If she bites you make sure that she knows she hurt you by yelping. Use a firm voice and instantly stop playing. She will learn that biting ends playtime.

Remember to set a schedule to get both of you on the same page. Get your puppy used to waking up and going outside to use the bathroom at the same time each morning. You should feed your puppy at the same time each day as well. How much food you feed your puppy and how often you should leave food out with be different for every breed. Don’t forget to schedule in some play time. Consistency will help with training.

Having a puppy is certainly not all fun and no work. But with some patience, consistency and repetition your puppy can be trained and respectful in no time at all. Puppy obedience training will help your pup grow into a well mannered dog and give you plenty of joy and friendship for many years to come!

Pets are terrific in all sorts of ways. Most pet owners love there pets as family. We will discuss a way to bring you and your pet closer even while training. Remember your pet is extremely loyal to you and your family.

One of the most important things for you to understand is, the commands and rules must be constant. We tend to get upset with our animals because they stop being obedient after a certain period of time.

Whatever route you decide to take in training your pet, do it yourself or hire a trainer, you must be consistent. Once the pet has a clear understanding of what the rules are they will happily follow them.

The true key in training your animal, specifically your dog, is training yourself. When you give certain commmands to your dog, keep your tone constant. For example, when you are telling Spot to sit while you are in a good mood, don’t change it from when you are in a bad mood. Do not let it go from “O sit baby” to “SIT YOU STUPID DOG!!!

This sort of action only confuses the animal, and then we tend to think they are being disobedient. The truth is that as much as your dog loves you, you are starting to confuse and irritate them.

Even with the many many conversations we have with our pets, they really don’t know what we are talking about. They only know tones and sounds, which is why our commands have to be consistent. Please do not stop talking your pet though. The animal always knows when we are being loving and compassionate to them by the sound of our voice.

Once you make up your mind you want a well trained pet, remember it all starts with training yorself first. Never begin the habit of repeating commands, or they will be less effective. For example if you say “down down down” your pet will think if you do not say it three times you are not serious.
