The more common breeders, like that of Border Collie breeders can be readily found across the country and you won’t have to go to special lengths to find one nearby where you live.

However, it can be difficult for some people to find Border Collie breeders who meet their stringent standards. These people might expect perfection from the breeders themselves and will tolerate no latitude of failure. If however, you’re willing to come down a little from unattainable perfection, and can admit that breeders are also human you will be able to find good Border Collie breeders near you.

The main thing that you want to do when looking at breeders of any type, not only Border Collie breeders, is to make sure that they are running a clean setup and not a puppy mill in disguise. This is simply accomplished most times by visiting the breeding establishment and determining for yourself whether the conditions the dogs live in are alright.

After this is done, you need to determine whether a Border Collie is the right type of dog for you and the best way to determine this is by asking Border Collie Breeders for information. These people are ready to provide you with all the information that would help you in taking your decision. This type of information can help you to get a better understanding of what type of dog a Border Collie is and whether it is suited to your style of living.

Most of the Border Collie breeders would be willing to interact with you regarding what type of a dog a Border Collie is and how you can take care of the needs of the dog.

Most of the people have no idea about the amount of responsibility that they need to burden after getting a pet dog. If you going to have a dog or any pet for the first time, it would be great if you spend a little time on thinking how the pet is going to affect your life and what changes you would need to incorporate in your lifestyle to accommodate the pet.

A dog is a lifelong responsibility, it is a something that you must take very seriously and should be ready to make a commitment right from the start. Many people get a dog without thinking what they are getting themselves into, and this is the reason why one should obtain all information that is required to make a sound decision.

The first concern of any koi pond keeper, indeed of any fish pond keeper, it to maintain the pond water at a high level of cleanliness. This basically means that you have to keep the nitrate and ammonia levels down. However, the fish will not help in this task, and nor can they, since they live and defecate in their environment, the water. You can accurately say that the live in their own toilet bowl.

Therefore, it is up to you, as their patron, to keep their water as clean as possible. This is actually not so difficult and much or the cleansing process can be automated, leaving you, the owner, to only have to carry out routine, weekly checks.

The first check that you should carry out can be made on a daily basis if not more often, when you give food to your fish, does the water look clear? Is it green? Are there lots of leaves floating around in it? If it is clear enough to see the bottom of the pond, you are probably doing OK, but do not rely on that, wait for the weekly chemical check up.

Never forget that you have manufactured an unnatural environment for your fish to live in. It is nearer to nature that a fish tank, but it is a long way from being a river or a duck pond. This is why the bigger your pond is, the simpler it will be to maintain, because the closer it will be to the real thing.

The smaller your pond, the more that you will have to depend on water filtration and aeration systems to keep the water crystal clear. One way of helping to maintain clear water is not to over feed. Most fish pond owners give far more fish food that the fish require.

This results in more faeces and more rotting food on the bottom of the pond. All this excess energy in the water is happily used up by algae, which will also draw the oxygen out of the water as it blooms. If you find yourself in this position, the first thing to do is reduce the amount of feed and clean the sides of the pond of algae. If you do not, the shortage of oxygen will stress out your fish and stressed fish are more susceptible to disease.

Keep the water in your pond circulating as much as possible, as this will reintroduce oxygen into the water that the fish, algae and plants have used up. The standard ways of doing this are to have a fountain, a waterfall and an aerator (or bubbler, like you see in fish tanks).

Another way of dealing with oxygen and algae issues is to not overstock your fish pond. Koi will breed readily, so if you just start your population off with a few fish, you will soon have many more. They know when there are too many of them and they will eat the young or control the breeding in other ways. If you do all you can to give your fish a good milieu, they will do the rest.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on many subjects, but is at present concerned with fish pond accessories.
Bridle lameness, (Zgellahmheit or 'rein lameness' in German) can be a strange and dissociative phenomenon until it is correctly identified.

Bridle lameness, (Zgellahmheit or ‘rein lameness’ in German) can be a strange and dissociative phenomenon until it is correctly identified.

It is important that you watch your mount carefully during your horseback riding instruction for signs of discomfort which need to be cared for as soon as possible.

What is Bridle Lameness?

A horse that appears perfectly fine while in the paddock or lunged in a halter may go lame when being ridden or lunged in the bridle. When this happens, the horse is said to be “bridle lame” and may manifest in uneven head nodding, the horse appearing to be lame in one foreleg, or appearing to have spinal pain or stiffness.

His walk and trot strides are uneven because he’s leaning on one rein and avoiding the other. The result of such unbalanced contact is that the horse is constantly crooked and one of his hind legs moves in shorter strides than the other, leading to apparent lameness.

Both sluggish and more energetic horses can show bridle lameness. Even riders who are advanced in their horseback riding instruction can cause it by pushing their horses too far without having ridden correctly in the early stages of the animals’ training. Their horses alternate between rushing ahead and hesitating. They aren’t lame in extended trot but refuse to step forwards in collected trot and attempt to go above the bit, with nodding head and uneven steps.

What Causes Bridle Lameness & How Can It Be Cured?

A rider who lacks balance and is stiff in one arm can cause bridle lameness in his mount. Rider stiffness results in a mount that is not able to relax in the back. As a result, the horse’s legs are forced to work harder to compensate for the imbalance. This can result in an injury to the horse’s leg due to the uneven stress.

If you suspect your horse is bridle lame, pay special attention in your horseback riding instruction to developing a balanced seat, while maintaining equal but light contact on both reins. Ride your horse forwards without rushing him, and allow him to find his natural rhythm.

A horse which has been bridle lame for a long time will require your patience. He’ll probably take a while to get used to no longer being ridden crookedly. Once he’s allowed to move straight and freely into an even, elastic contact, he’ll no longer behave as though lame under saddle.

It is a well understood fact that adopting a puppy is a very complex task, not because you need to find a puppy that is quite adorable and becomes a part of the family, but because of the fact that adopting a puppy would require you to adjust your way of living according to the needs of your puppy.

Catering to your new puppy’s needs would require you to implement some changes in your lifestyle. Since the puppy has just suffered a separation from everything that he knows till now, it would be required from you to spend some time close to him and provide him with love, care and affection.

Also some time would be required in the early stages to make the puppy housetrained. But if you do not have the time to perform this task then you have the option of sending your puppy to a dog trainer much like a kindergarten for dogs. But before doing any of these things, it is inherent that you gain an idea regarding what you puppy is going to be like when it has matured.

Well right now you would wonder, what does it matter what the dog looks like when its grown up into a adult? Well having this kind of an attitude can get you into a little trouble as different kinds of dogs have different temperaments. Some puppies enjoy company of all kinds of people. Other puppies may simply attach themselves to a single person.

Still other dogs have finicky tastes while others will devour everything that you put in front of them and stuff you never thought about placing. Basically when you adopt a puppy you are bringing a small animal into your life. This animal is dependent on your for all aspects of living. This will not prevent your puppy from growing into an adult dog with a mind of its own.

That is why it is advisable to look at what the puppy you are adopting is going to be like in the future. This would help you to realise how much space the puppy would require. The space needs to be allocated for both outdoors and indoors. Also it is required that you know whether your puppy is more happy doing tasks that are outdoors in nature, such as in case of Alsatians or Dobermans. Protecting your property and home are things that these dogs are more suited to.

After gauging the temperament of a puppy it is necessary to find out how much can be spent on things such as toys, food, veterinary trips, medicine and discipline. The emotional, physical and mental health of your puppy is by far largely dependent on these things. All in all, these concerns should not become an obstacle in your desire to get a companion in the form of a puppy.

You should however be prepared for how much your life will change when you adopt a puppy. This cute bundle of mischief has the ability of bringing joy and laughter into your life.

If not correctly taken care of, dog bites can be one of the most hazardous of all animal bites. Thousands of people pass-away every year because of rabies from dog bites. Many victims of animal bites have the tendency to dismiss the seriousness of such wounds because they think that they are not dangerous and can be treated with simple hand washing the wound or by just taking antibiotics. What they are unaware of is, this type of bite can lead to life-threatening infections, disability, deformity or even death.

Dog attacks can avoided in a number of ways. A good way is to put a safe distance between you and the suspicious mutt. One other method is to abstain from evoking attack from a dog. If you find yourself in stand-off with a suspicious dog, it is best to retreat very slowly and then walk away. Nevertheless, regardless of how cautious you try to be, there may come a time when you will experience such a situation. This is when it is handy to have some dog pepper spray around.

A dog pepper spray is an animal repellent used specifically against a threatening canine. It comes in an aerosol container which you can take along in your knapsack, handbag, or attach case. For further ease of use, you can even affix it to your belt or key chain. There are several advantages of using defense sprays. Once it is sprayed on the animal, the symptoms of dog pepper spray will be straightaway. The effects of the spray last long enough giving you enough time to get away from the animal to safety. The pepper spray will cause so much agony and discomfort that the dog will turn his attention from attacking you to recuperating from the burning sensation. If you a lover of animals, you don’t need to worry about these chemical substances because they do not cause lasting or critical injury to the animal. The effects of the spray are non-lethal and will disappear in about half an hour. One other reason why this type of animal repellent is used widely is because it is legal to use anywhere in America, providing it is used only for self defense. There may be restrictions in some cities or states, so always check your local law enforcement agency for any state’s ordinances covering the use of pepper sprays.

What is the difference between human pepper spray and dog pepper spray? The pepper resins in dog pepper spray are not as strong as the ones in the human edition. The amount of pepper resin present in this type dog repellent is typically less than half of the pepper resin in human spray. In case of a crisis, you could use human grade pepper spray to stop a dog attack but not a dog grade pepper spray on attacking villains because it will be ineffective.

Even dog lovers may find themselves in a situation where they will need to defend themselves against an attacking canine. Animals can be very unpredictable, it is wise to never underestimate a dog’s capacity to cause you injury. Carrying dog pepper spray is one effectual and humane way to defend yourself and loved ones from an attacking dog.

So, you have decided that you want to take horseback riding lessons, but you have no idea how to get started. Luckily, there are endless resources available and you should have no problem getting started.

So, you have decided that you want to take horseback riding lessons, but you have no idea how to get started. Luckily, there are endless resources available and you should have no problem getting started.

The first thing that you should do is to find a horse back riding instructor. There are many resources that you can access to find the perfect instructor for you needs. You can start by looking in your local phone directory, going to a horse show, or by word of mouth (do you have a friend or know someone taking lessons). You can also contact national, regional, or local horse clubs, the United States Equestrian Federation, or breed associations (AQHA, APHA, Appaloosa horse breeders…). You could also stop by a local stable and ask if they have an instructor that gives lessons, and even if they do not give lessons, they will probably know of someone who does.

When you are looking for an instructor, do not be afraid to ask question. After all, you want to get the best possible instruction for your money. The first thing you should ask is if the instructor has any certifications or accreditations. You should also ask how long they have owned and ridden horses, how long have they been teaching, what is their specialty (you want to make sure that they teach the discipline that you want to learn), how many students do they currently have, and do they offer private lessons? Once you have found an instructor, it is also important to evaluate the stables that they teach at.

When you are visiting the stables it is important to make sure that the stables are clean, the horses look healthy, and that the stables main priority is safety for everyone. Here are some specific things that you can look for when you are visiting a stable. Is the riding area free from clutter, are the students wearing riding helmets and horse back riding boots, are the lesson groups to big, do the students appear to be on the same level, are the horses healthy, and finally does everyone appear to be happy and having fun learning?

You have found a good horse riding stables and a good instructor, now it is time to find all the proper equipment. Many times your instructor will have all of the equipment you will need for your lesson and you will not need to purchase any of your own equipment at first. After you have progressed in your lessons, you may want to have your own equipment. There are many ways to find good quality equipment with out spending a fortune. Your best bet is to ask your instructor or other students at the stable if they, or someone they know, have any equipment for sale, or you can check your local paper or tack shop.

We all want to give our dogs a variety and mix up their treats somewhat. This is all well and good if these are high quality treats, but there are some on the market that are very poor quality.

Dogs love to receive treats, and we love giving them to them.

You would never dream of hurting your pet, yet you may accidentally cause them harm. This article is to make dog lovers aware of the potential hazards of dog treats that you probably aren’t aware of.

Manufacturers of dog treats are very clever; and market them as having a dual purpose. Greenies are a prime example, as they are meant to clean your dogs teeth too. A puppy can easily choke on a Greenie, and you should never leave an older dog alone with one either.

Another popular favorite are the rawhide chews. I don’t know of a dog that doesn’t like these. These keep your dog occupied and clean their teeth at the same time. Unfortunately, rawhide chews can also prove to be dangerous.

It has been found that rawhide produced outside of the US has been preserved in potentially fatal chemicals, such as Arsenic. So always ensure that you only American rawhide that has been made within the US.

Dogs are thieves, especially when food is concerned. We often find that our pooch has demolished chocolates that have been left lying around, but did you know that this could actually kill them? Chocolate is extremely toxic for both your cat and your dog.

This is due to the presence of Theobromine in the chocolate. This has an effect on your pet akin to caffeine. A small amount will make your dog hyper; a large dose could be fatal.

How much are you feeding your puppy? If you are simply going from the packaging label recommendations, you may be feeding your puppy too much or too little.

How much are you feeding your puppy? If you are simply going from the packaging label recommendations, you may be feeding your puppy too much or too little.

Worried that increasing your puppy’s food intake could cause him to gain weight? This is a valid concern, as extra weight is responsible for health problems in many animals. It is important to make sure that your puppy is getting additional exercise when his food intake increases.

It is critical to avoid having an obese dog by feeding your puppy the right amount. If your puppy is getting overweight or is overfed, start reducing his calories each day until his weight reaches an ideal amount.

An overweight (or underweight) dog is more likely to get sick than a dog at a healthy weight. Starting your puppy out at a healthy weight while he is young will help him now and later.

Are you taking your puppy’s temperature? This is important so you can nip any fever in the bud. Your puppy’s temperature should range from 99.5 – 102.5 degrees. You should check a couple of times each week.

Your vet can show you how to take a dog’s temperature. The thermometer will need to be inserted into the rectum, so be sure to have plenty of mineral oil or petroleum jelly on hand.

The thermometer will only need to stay in the rectum for three minutes. If your puppy’s temperature is higher than it should be, be sure to take him to the vet right away!

Make absolutely certain that you purchase a rectal thermometer for this purpose! An oral thermometer is likely to give you a false reading and make you think your puppy is sick when he is not. Now have fun getting your puppy off to a healthy start!

Raising chickens is growing very common, and it is not just done on farms anymore. There is a boom in raising chickens in the suburbs and in cities. Small chicken coops allow non-farmers to provide healthy, fabulous eggs for their family while as well creating a feeling of self-sufficiency and a association with our country-style roots.

Eggs produced by chickens raised on pasture are nutritionally superior to eggs presently sold in supermarkets. They have less cholesterol, less saturated fat, more vitamin A and E, more omega-3 fatty acids, and more beta-carotene. Organic eggs produced in the backyard are much more tastier, too.

Chickens are really a lot like any other pets – they bond with their owners, they get along well with children, and just like any pet, they are full of surprises. It is now possible to have your very own healthy, happy flock of hens, not to mention a non-stop supply of pleasant-tasting eggs, in your own backyard. All that is requisite is a well-designed henhouse and some land where the hens can move about.

To have a thriving and content flock of chickens, they first need adequate floor space. 6 square feet of floor space per chicken is perfect. In addition, the hencoop needs to be dry and well-ventilated, with plenty of oxygen. Satisfactory ventilation also permits unneeded moisture, ammonia, and carbon dioxide to escape. If the hens are kept dry, they will keep warm and safe, even in cold weather, and the happier and healthier the chickens are, the more eggs they will lay.

A added advantage of raising chickens is that they produce high quality manure from their droppings that is rich in nitrogen. This manure is a outstanding natural fertiliser and can be recycled in to the hen owners garden or even sold. The average hen produces 250 to 300 eggs per year, so excess eggs can as well be sold to bolster the family income.

There are many rewards to having a small chicken coop. Besides the delightful eggs and invaluable manure, a small chicken coop is portable. Plus, owning chickens is a marvelous chance for children to learn lessons about responsibility, hard work, and the value of money. With all these benefits, it is not surprising that keeping hens has become such a fashionable pastime.

In their natural surroundings, it is common for fish to eat only when they are hungry. Whenever there is an abundance of food, fish eat much food however, when there is not much food they can go for several days without eating. This trend has made fish to become opportunistic in that whenever they get much food they make sure they have eaten to their full.

Food given to fish usually depends on their nature, whether they are omnivorous, carnivorous or herbivorous. Before you get the fish, it is wise to find out seek information regarding their type from the supplier.

In case the fish look like a catfish, then most probably they are in the fresh water category and this means that their choice of food entails algae pellets, wafers and fish flakes. Saltwater fish favor veggie clips and sea weed because of their herbivorous nature and therefore these will have to be bought and put inside the tank. Some plankton and emerald entry form can be used to supplement the diet which is herbivorous.

Carnivorous fish species require different types of meat which should be chopped up into small pieces. This includes chopped fish, shrimp and clams. Frozen food can also be given to the carnivorous fish such as mysis and brine shrimp. All of these foods can be purchased from various pet stores.

Immature fish like mollies or guppies require baby fish food, which is also available in pet stores. This food is small enough to fit inside the mouths of these minute fish. If fed with flakes they have to be crushed to reduce their size.

The diet favored by goldfish is very specific and it includes flakes or pellets of high quality as well as veggie diet consisting of zucchini, cucumber green peas, water lettuce, shrimp pellets, bloodworms and duckweed. Tropical fish should not share an aquarium with goldfish.

A reason for this is they have different kinds of diet which do not complement the different nutritional needs they have. Gold fish are also known to release ammonia in high amounts which tropical fish cannot handle. To establish the amount of food to be eaten by the fish try and find out the amount they can handle within five minutes and this will give you the needed amount.

There is no set frequency for the feeding of the fish but they may be fed up to five times a day. It is important to note that it is not just the amount but also the quality of food that matters for fish.
